After graduation I attended MCC and then the University of Iowa, graduating with a degree in Psychology. I basically coasted on autopilot through High School and college, not really deciding what I wanted to do with my life. I stayed in Iowa City after college working as a supervisor in the stockroom at the U of I hospital while half-heartedly attempting to make music a larger part in my life. In 1998, I took a blind leap and moved to Rochester NY with my reluctant girlfriend of many years in tow. Soon after I joined a band and found some moderate success. In 2003 I joined a Doom Metal project called Orodruin which quickly became a permanent group. We recorded an album which was well received and the ball started rolling. At this point reluctant-girlfriend had enough of rock & roll fantasy camp and jumped ship. It didn’t take too long for me to jump right back into the drama, but I think I did better this time…I think. I met my wife to be on the internet. Yeah the internet is cool! She had a daughter from a previous relationship which was kind of like getting an exotic pet that you have no idea how to take care of. I haven’t had to flush her down the toilet and she hasn’t killed me in my sleep so I think it is going ok. Now back to the music because my wife is boring. So I have been able to tour the states and abroad, been in metal magazines, played with many of my heroes and live a quasi rock & roll life-all of which didn’t happen until I was 30. I guess I went through a mid-life crisis in my 20’s ?
My wife really isn’t that boring so I guess I can bring her back in the story. She nagged me for about a year and finally I gave in. Our son Mason was born in 2004. He is my little buddy and we spend a lot of time nerding out on Stars Wars etc. It is 2010 as I write this and life is good. It is also close to Valentines Day and I must add that even though my wife tends to drive me nuts she is generally awesome and supports me and my bands. I wish the best for all of you and hope you have found your niche.
