Immediately following high school graduation I shipped to US Army Basic Combat Training at Ft Hood, Texas. I attended University of Northern Iowa (fall '91 through spring '95) where I graduated with a Chemistry degree and an Army commission. I married the former Jennifer Kotz of Dubuque prior to attending the Medical Service Corps Officer Basic Course. It seems that we have been moving ever since.
I deployed to Bosnia in 2001 and Afghanistan multiple times between 2003-2005.
After Afghanistan I was rewarded with a two-year assignment as a graduate student. I completed a Masters degree in Civil Engineering at Iowa State in 2007.
I served as the US Army Health Facility Planning Agency Regional Program Manager for the Great Plains, Pacific, and Central regions. This allowed my family an opportunity to live in Korea for 2-years.
I am a cancer survivor and retired from the Army in August 2019.
